STUDENT FACILITIES
COMPUTER LAB
Across the hall from the student room is the department's computer room, which houses 12 Pentium computers. These computers are each connected to the university network and, through that network, to the internet. Special software is installed on these computers that will facilitate the completion of student projects. Access to this room is restricted to departmental majors or to those students who are enrolled in advanced level departmental courses. Faculty identify those students who will benefit from access to this room and authorize, through the department chair, their access.
STUDENT ROOM
Centrally located relative to all department classrooms and laboratories is the student room, a meeting place for department majors and students interested in geoscience. The student room serves as an information meeting room, study room, and tutorial space. It contains a small geoscience library with journals such as the Bulletin of the Geological Society of America extending back to the 1950s and the Journal of Geophysical Research back to 1966. These collections, although limited, are valuable for student research projects.
STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Just outside of the student room is a bulletin board that serves as an announcement board for student meetings and activities, both on campus and off campus. Students wishing to schedule tutorial sessions may sign up on the sheet found there. SGE members volunteer their time as student tutors for those in introductory geology classes. The Earth and Space Science Club plans frequent trips to museums and geological sites within the area.
